Thursday, April 29th – 1:00pm to 2:00pm (zoom session)
Why do people join groups like the Flat Earth Society, QAnon, Incels and Proud Boys? Why do we see the world the way we do? Find out why in this lecture, which examines how a narrow set of human psychological traits, motivations and processes shape how we make sense of the world around us. Discuss the role of fear in conspiracy thinking and extremist attitudes.
David King, PhD, is an instructor in the UBC Department of Psychology where he has led courses in personality psychology, health psychology and the psychology of sex and gender since 2012. In addition to multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals, he is also the co-author of two undergraduate textbooks
